If you're looking for High Definition videos of a wide variety of trains across the Northeastern United States (and beyond sometimes), you've come to the right place! I provide high definition videos of everything from Class I freight operations to commuter trains to tourist railroads, mainline steam excursions, shortlines. You name it, I shoot it! I try to upload as much as possible, but college and work have me fairly busy throughout the year, so bear with me in terms of the gaps between uploads. Sit back, and get ready for a a railroad experience as if you were right there in person!
HiDef: Odd Locomotive Leaders in South Jersey-E8, Switcher, Leasers, and More!
It's now 2024, and the chances of seeing something interesting leading freight trains is slimmer than ever. Thanks to PTC and Cab Signal requirements, massive storage lines of "the cool stuff", and other reasons, it is now increasingly hard to catch oddball locomotives leading. However, in South Jersey, that isn't always the case, which brings me to the point of this video. Thanks to the aforementioned requirements not applying to the rules in effect on Conrail's South Jersey District, we can see some rather unique locomotives leading trains. Featured in this video are the following leaders, in respective order:

On April 26th, 2022, The Reading and Northern Railroad operated a test train with their newly restored 4-8-4 "T-1" #2102, unassisted, accompanied by 50 empty coal hoppers and a caboose. Over the years, it has become increasingly difficult to find locomotives on Class I railroads with cab mounted airhorns. I was there on May 26th or so, around 28:15 off camera. My dad brought me down to see the 765 where she unloaded and then departed for servicing. I waved at the crew and they were able to whistle back at me I think and it was awesome! Best day ever!

This is my favorite 3 chime whistle that 475 has. It suits her so well. I will admit and there are going to be a lot of fans that may disagree but I personally like the 12 inch hooter whistle more as it’s my favorite whistle 475 has. But I can’t deny the 3 chime whistle 475 has in this video definitely sounds wonderful.
